Spotlight West’s reach extends from Vancouver, Toronto and New York to London, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing.

Stephanie brings over a decade of experience in private and non-profit sectors, both locally and in Asia. She has an extensive background in providing strategic consultation on rebranding and campaigns in the Asian market. Her drive and tenacity took her all the way to Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business, where she completed a General Management program. Subsequently, she furthered her education and achieved a Masters in Management at Harvard University.

Through her experience of being raised by immigrant parents and her travels and work in Asia, she jumped at the opportunity to start her own agency. As a result, Spotlight West was created to address a gap in the market.

The global Chinese market is the fastest-growing consumer market in the world. Stephanie saw the Western world struggle to connect with the Chinese community and the need for authentic representation. Stephanie developed systems and methods for helping North American companies effectively communicate and market to the Chinese community in North America and Asia.

In recent years, as the world evolved and adapted due to the global pandemic, so too did Stephanie. She pivoted and broadened Spotlight West’s services to suit the needs of the COVID crisis better. As a result, the company actually expanded during that time. The demand for services grew, and Stephanie worked to grow her team. She mobilized a team that supports localized client work in real-time and in five different time zones. She has worked with renowned companies such as Ford Motors, Bang & Olufsen, Avenue Road and the Vancouver Canucks. Her resilience during this time has been noticed as she has been nominated for the Association of Chinese Canadian Entrepreneurs’ 2023 Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

In addition to her business accomplishments, Stephanie devotes much time to charity. She is a founding partner and advisor for the Eyeglasses Project, a non-profit organization that provides marginalized communities in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside with free eye care and prescription glasses. To date, the Eyeglasses Project has helped over 500 people and onboarded 30 partners. Their goal is to bring their work nationally and help people across Canada.

It is clear that in both her company and her volunteer sphere, community is at the center of all of Stephanie’s work. She brings people together, and her generous spirit is reflected in giving back to a community that has provided much to her.

Stephanie’s highlights in the community include the following:

  • Vice-President, Board of Directors for Chimo Community Services;

best business advice for entrepreneurs

best business advice for entrepreneurs

Being an entrepreneur is hard work. It’s a constant hustle and grinds, and there’s no guarantee of success. However, if you’re armed with the right knowledge and advice, you can put yourself in a much better position to succeed. With that in mind, here are five business advice every entrepreneur needs to hear.

1. Know your customer inside and out.

This advice is critical for any business, but it’s especially important for entrepreneurs. When starting a business from scratch, you don’t have the luxury of established customer relationships and brand recognition to fall back on. That means it’s even more important to know your target market and what they’re looking for. Take the time to understand their needs, wants, and pain points. You can only develop a product or service that truly meets their needs.

2. Don’t be afraid to start small.

Many entrepreneurs make the mistake of thinking they must go big or go home when first starting. They try to do too much too quickly, spreading themselves thin or becoming overwhelmed. Instead of biting off more than you can chew, start small and focused. Once you’ve built up a solid foundation and proven yourself in your initial market, you can always expand from there.

3. Be flexible and adaptable.

The business world is constantly changing, so entrepreneurs need to be flexible and adaptable if they want to stay ahead of the curve. What worked yesterday might not work tomorrow, so always be open to trying new things and experimenting with new approaches. Who knows? You might stumble upon the next big thing.

4. Believe in yourself—but also get feedback from others..

Entrepreneurs need to believe in themselves; if you don’t believe in your idea, why should anyone else? However, it’s also important to get feedback from others—especially those who are unbiased and objective—to get an idea of your business’s viability. After all, it’s easy to get caught up in your excitement and fail to see the potential flaws in your plans. So don’t be afraid to solicit feedback from people whose opinions you trust—it could be invaluable information that helps you avoid making costly mistakes down the road..

Additional Advice:

  1. Have a clear vision for your business.
  2. Do your research and know your industry inside and out.
  3. Put together a strong team of experts to help you achieve your vision.
  4. Make sure your financials are in order before you launch your business.
  5. Focus on building a strong customer base from day one.
  6. Constantly innovate and evolve to stay ahead of the competition.
  7. Never give up on your dreams.
  8. Be prepared to work harder than you ever thought possible.
  9. Be patient; success takes time.
  10. Always stay positive and believe in yourself and your business.

These are pieces of advice that every entrepreneur should keep in mind when starting their own business. If you can focus on these points, you’ll put yourself miles ahead of the competition and exponentially increase your chances for success.
