In short
Inspiring Canadians lists 40 pet products brands that make their products in Canada. They come from 8 provinces and territories, most often Ontario, British Columbia and Quebec. Examples include Intersand, Boreal Pet Food, Oven-Baked Tradition and Horizon Pet Food.
Canadian pet brands make food, treats, beds, collars, leashes, toys and grooming products. According to the CFIA, pet food is not comprehensively regulated in Canada the way food for people or livestock feed is, so reading labels closely and asking makers direct questions matters more in this aisle than in most.

Yes. Canadian pet food companies must follow strict manufacturing and ingredient regulations. Many go above and beyond with human-grade, organic, or grain-free formulas. We highlight that info in each listing.
Absolutely. Many Canadian pet brands are focused on sustainability—using recycled materials, natural ingredients, and plastic-free packaging. We tag these in the directory to make them easy to find.
While most brands cater to dogs and cats, we’re expanding our listings to include Canadian-made products for birds, small animals, and more. Let us know if you have a suggestion—we’d love to include it.
Most brands offer online shopping, and many are stocked in local pet stores, boutiques, and even major retailers. We include links so you can shop directly from the source.
Sometimes—but not always. With Canadian products, you’re often paying for better ingredients, higher quality, and ethical manufacturing. Plus, they last longer and support your local economy.

Only in part. The CFIA says pet food is not a comprehensively regulated commodity in Canada compared to food for people or livestock feed. Its own oversight is limited to the import and export of animal products. Some ingredients fall under Health Canada or Environment and Climate Change Canada, and misleading labels can still be a concern for the Competition Bureau.
Not necessarily. Made in Canada means the food was made here, but proteins, grains and other ingredients may be imported. If sourcing matters to you, look for a specific statement about where the meat or fish comes from, or ask the brand directly. Brands that source in Canada usually say so clearly.
Ask where the food is made and whether the brand uses its own facility or a contract manufacturer. Ask where the main ingredients come from and whether the recipe is formulated to a recognized nutritional standard. Check Government of Canada recall notices, and talk to your veterinarian, especially if your pet has health issues.
Origin alone does not make a toy safe. What matters is how it is made and how your pet plays. Look for sturdy stitching, a size your pet cannot swallow and materials suited to chewing. Supervise new toys at first and replace them once they start to come apart.
Yes. Pet beds, collars, harnesses and leashes are often sewn by small Canadian shops, sometimes to order in custom sizes or colours. Ask about the materials, whether covers are washable, and whether the maker repairs or replaces worn hardware. Small makers often take custom requests that larger brands cannot.
